I like to get methodical when it comes to scoring restaurants in Glasgow – that way I can be sure I’m giving every place a fair review.
You can find a quick summary below or read further on to understand how I score the restaurants I visit.
TL;DR
- The restaurant must be within greater Glasgow
- If the restaurant is themed around a specific food or cuisine, I must order that specific food or dishes within that cuisine
- Each restaurant is rated on 4 core factors: Food, Atmosphere, Service, and Value for Money
- The final scoring is an average of these 4 factors
- I will always provide photos of the food and the restaurant
- If possible, I may even provide a short video so you can assess the vibe
- Any faces or identifiable information will be blurred
- I will always include key details for each restaurant, this includes:
- Name
- Location
- Website (if it exists)
- Day and time of visit
Methodology
In order to ensure I don’t just rate restaurants highly based solely on my own individual preferences, I’ve settled on 4 core factors to consider for every review.
These factors will always be considered in my commentary. I will also give a score from 1 to 5 for each factor.
After each factor is scored, the overall score, out of 5, is awarded based on averaging the scores given for each core factor.
So, for example, if a restaurant scored 4 for Food, 2 for Atmosphere, 3 for Service, and 5 for Value for Money, the final overall score would be 3.5.
The maths looks like this: (4+2+3+5) / 4 = 3.5
Core Factors
Food
The most important factor of all; how was the food?
What did it taste like? How does it compare to the same dish I’ve had elsewhere? What did I like about it?
How was it presented? Did it look tasty? Was I excited to dig in?
What options were there? Was the selection too narrow or overwhelming? Did it cater to allergies and/or dietary preferences?
Atmosphere
How was the vibe? Did it feel laid back and relaxing? Or was it lively and energetic?
How busy was it? Did I feel crowded? Or was it deserted and awkward?
What as the decor like? Did it look like it could do with some renovating? How clean was it?
Service
How friendly were the staff? Were they helpful? Was it difficult to get their attention?
Did they have an attention to detail? Did they ask about allergies? Did they provide any recommendations?
Did any of the staff stand out? Were there any memorable characters?
Value for Money
Did it feel worth the money? Could I have gotten a better deal elsewhere?
How were the portion sizes? Did I leave still feeling hungry?
Was the bill higher/lower than expected? Did they hit me with a service charge?
The Bottom Line™
I’ll always include The Bottom Line™, a sentence or two that encapsulates my experience of the restaurant. If you want a quick good/bad assessment of the place, that’s where to look.
